Imaging of biological structures in living cells is increasingly popular and needed. Opposite to immunostaining of fixed cells, live cell fluorescence microscopy requires unique fluorescent reporters. Those need to be able to label living cells either by crossing the cellular membranes or by being assembled within the cell (like GFP).

Spirochrome’s technology is based on silicon rhodamine (SiR) and SPY™ fluorophores1,3). These are bright and photostable rhodamine-like dye. Their key features are cell permeability, high photostability, fluorogenic character and compatibility with super-resolution microscopy. The fluorescence excitation and emission of SiR and SPY™ fluorophores cover the whole visible spectrum. SiR and SPY™ fluorophores are compatible with most microscopes usually falling within usual settings such as Cy3, Cy5 or FITC. They use their SiR and SPY™ fluorophores in conjunction with ligands binding to cellular structures such as DNA, actin, microtubules or lysosomes to create reliable and high quality probes for live cell imaging. This combination set SiR and SPY™ based probes at the leading edge of high performance & high quality fluorescent probes.
